Phi Phi Island Tour
Dan and I received the first class treatment from Rayavadee while traveling to the Phi Phi islands. Instead of taking the iconic long tail boats which are way cheaper but also noisy and slow, the resort offered us a tour on a speedboat with cushy leather seats. The ride was smooth, which was great because I couldn't stop snapping pictures. I had never seen anything like these towering islands made of limestone jutting out of the clear, turquoise sea.
Our route started from Phra Nang beach toward Koh Phi Phi Don. There we stopped at the gorgeous Blue Lagoon where we took photos jumping off the boat and had a quick swim. Then we continued around to Maya Bay where Leonardo DiCaprio filmed The Beach and which was completely overrun with tourists. Our boat asked if any of us thought it was worth it to stop at the beach, but we all looked at the crowd and decided to skip it. Dan has since said that he wishes we had gotten the classic Maya Bay photo that everyone gets there, but I feel pretty confident we made the right call.
Next, we cruised to Koh Phi Phi Leh which is an island where you can actually stay overnight at a few select resorts. This island is known for its great snorkeling, so we anchored in one of the bays and jumped in. There were tons of really colorful fish, but the coral was definitely lacking in my opinion. I'm not sure if the reefs are protected here, but in general you may have better luck diving than snorkeling.
For our last stop, we continued on to Bamboo island for a picnic on a private beach. There was no one on our beach except our small tour group and we felt really relaxed. The crew laid down bamboo mats for us to sit on and then distributed our made to order lunches. After lunch, we had time to walk on the beach, swim in the reef, or simply take in the gorgeous direct views of the Phi Phi Islands.
We landed back on Phra Nang beach by late afternoon, so we changed out of our swimwear to join Rayavadee for their afternoon tea time in the main dining area. The Phi Phi islands are a must see, and I'm so glad I got to see it in style with Rayavadee.
